We can easily observe flow front of upper side and low side of the panel during resin transfer processing. 3K plane weaves carbon fiber fabrics had been used in our studies. The thicknesses of the preform were various from 2 layers to 16 layers. Experiment results showed that the flow rate in the distributed layer could be the same for different preform thicknesses. But the rate of resin infusing through the preform were quite different. The thicker preform the lower resin infusing rate is. Because the flow rate in the distributed layer is much higher than in the preform, air voids are embraced in the composites panels. By controlling the flow inlet and processes lay out, one can let resin flow front in the distributed layer and preform closer to eliminate pin holes. |
