However, an extreme temperature as high as 2700 °C is required for traditional tungsten powder to be sintered to near full density. In order to fabricate the tungsten heavy alloy target at lower temperature, using carbon-based tungsten and different Ni/Fe ratio to it as the additive because that can reduce the melting point of the matrix and hence enable lower sintering temperatures. The result revealed that the crystallite size of the tungsten heavy alloys reaches around 300 nm after mechanical milling for 24 hours. An increase in the mass ratio of nickel to iron resulted in the increase of dissolved concentration of tungsten in the matrix, almost in a linear manner. |
